Homecoming
Homecoming is a series of 6" by 9" collages I created by cutting out elements of photographs of family members and layering them on top of watercolor paintings and pen drawings.
Through found materials and collage I aim to portray the feelings that come with seeing things change upon returning to a hometown. The diner near your house is still open, but maybe now it’s under new management. Family members will keep some of their habits, but their hair may be a different color. For each collage I took a photograph and cut out certain figures and objects and then abstracted the remaining elements using paint and found materials. Creating the collages gave me an opportunity to reflect on how things change over time, even if you don’t notice them until you go back home.
